Learning and Resources for Individuals and Families

Structured guidance and practical support for navigating self-directed services.

Self-directed services place meaningful responsibility in the hands of individuals and families. With the right understanding and steady support, self-direction can feel empowering, sustainable and grounded in everyday life.

This page offers structured learning pathways, practical tools and community-based opportunities designed to strengthen clarity and confidence over time.

Understanding Self-Direction

Self-direction grows stronger when individuals and families understand both the opportunity and the responsibility it carries. This learning pathway introduces self-direction in three stages:

1

Foundations

Understanding roles, waiver expectations, service agreements and what it means to direct services responsibly.

2

Building Alignment

Strengthening communication with providers, clarifying expectations and developing shared understanding within support relationships.

3

Sustaining Growth

Problem-solving, adjusting support over time, maintaining documentation and strengthening long-term stability.

Learning opportunities may be accessed through guided sessions, small group discussions or structured materials.

Practical Tools and Guides

Practical guides support real-life conversations and decision-making. These tools are designed to clarify expectations, strengthen communication and support thoughtful planning within self-directed services.
